The Basics
The Object of the Game
In SimGolf, you try to get the ball into the hole using as few strokes as possible. SimGolf is scored by counting the number of strokes it takes to accomplish this task for each of the holes.
Starting the Round
Players begin at one of four tees -- Championship, Tournament, Regular or Forward -- determined when setting up the player. After the initial drive off the tee, the player who is farthest from the hole will take the next shot.
Winning the Game
Single Player Games
Even when you're playing alone, you always play against a challenger -- the golf course. To beat the course, you have to make "par" or better on each hole. Par is the number of strokes it takes a proficient golfer to get the ball from the tee to the hole. The golf course designer sets par for each hole. Typical holes have a 3, 4, or 5 par.
Multiple Player Games
When more than one person is playing SimGolf, the player with the lowest score wins the game, even if the winner did not make par for the course. (This is true for Stroke Play, the most common scoring for golf. Other game types (Match Play or Skins) use different scoring methods. )
